DESCRIPTION:New York saxophonist Daniel Bennett has been hailed as one of the most original and unpredictable musical voices of his generation. The Boston Globe described Bennett’s music as\, “a mix of Jazz\, Folk and Minimalism.” The Daniel Bennett Group is celebrating the release of their 10th studio album\, ‘Mr. Bennett’s Mind.’ Timeout New York called the music\, “hypnotic!” Daniel Bennett is joined by master percussionist Koko Bermejo on drums and keyboard. Rounding out the trio is acclaimed six-string bassist Kevin Hailey. \n\nDaniel Bennett has been featured in Timeout New York\, Baltimore Sun\, Miami Herald\, Boston Globe\, and NPR.The UK Jazz Journal called Bennett “an outspoken voice of hope” during the COVID 19 pandemic. Daniel Bennett Group was recently voted ‘Best New Jazz’ in Hot House Magazine. The band performs regularly at the Blue Note (NYC)\, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club (London) and Zingari Jazz (San Francisco). \n\nDaniel Bennett is a touring woodwind clinician and educator at the New York Jazz Academy. Daniel Bennett is also an active woodwind doubler in the New York City theater scene. Bennett orchestrated the music for ‘Whitman at the Whitney\,’ a multimedia theater production at the Whitney Museum. Daniel Bennett played woodwinds in ‘Blank! The Musical\,’ the first fully improvised musical to launch on a national stage. DESCRIPTION:Women in World Jazz\, a performing all women ensemble\, was founded by Tal Shalom-Kobi in 2015.  Women in World Jazz aims to expose audiences to different cultures through music\, with a variety of music backgrounds including jazz\, folk\, pop\, rock and blues. \nWIWJ director and Berklee college of music faculty\, Tal Shalom-Kobi\, has been active in the music history arena for the past 20 years\, researching and performing music written by women from the USA and around the world. The group Women in World Jazz features world music composed by women composers and lyricists past and present. From USA Blues and Jazz styles\, the group ventures to Latin America\, Asia \, Africa and the Middle East to celebrate the diversity and power of creativity. \nWomen In World Jazz brings together women of different nationalities with extensive experience in performance and education. The music is easy to relate to\, diverse and engaging. DESCRIPTION:Andrew is one of Hartford’s rising young musicians. Originally from Boylston\, MA\, Andrew has proven himself to be a talented young pianist\, with a passion to learn\, grow and play. After moving to Hartford at age 18\, Andrew quickly sought out his elders and began building relationships with them. These relationships eventually turned into mentors and employers and Andrew was seen frequently alongside many of these musicians including Haneef Nelson\, Nat Reeves\, Yoron Israel\, Abraham Burton\, Dr. Emmett Goods\, Ryan Abdul-Rahim Sands\, Jonathan Barber\, Wes Brown\, Alvin Carter Jr. and Matt Dwonszyk. \nA respectful student\, Andrew was a student of Rick Germanson\, Ralph Peterson\, Orrin Evans\, and the late great Stanley Cowell. Each introduced Andrew to other musicians\, but Ralph Peterson introduced Andrew to Jazzmeia Horn\, a musician who would time and time again give Andrew chances to prove himself. The most notable test was when Andrew was called as a last minute sub at the Newport Jazz Festival alongside Ms. Horn at the Newport Jazz Festival. \nAndrew is a frequent performer in the Northeastern United States where he is a regular member of the Haneef Nelson Quintet\, and the Hartford Jazz Orchestra among other groups. In addition\, Andrew fronts his own trio and sextet that perform his original compositions and arrangements. He has performed with Jason Marsalis\, Dr. Emmett Goods\, Haneef Nelson\, Ryan Sands\, Nat Reeves\, Yoron Israel\, Timothy Norton\, Abraham Burton\, Anaïs Reno\, Houston Person\, Gary Smulyan Angelina Kolobukhova\, Jazzmeia Horn\, The Glenn Miller Orchestra\, Jonathan Barber\, Marcus Grant\, Alex Tremblay and Matt Dwonszyk. \nAndrew is currently on faculty at the University of Rhode Island\, Connecticut College\, Westfield State University\, Choate-Rosemary Hall\, and the Joy of Music Program. \n\nAdmission: Free & Open to the Public \n\nTime: Doors 11:30am | Show at Noon \n\nAudience: All Ages \n\nArtist: Andrew Wilcox \n\nThe Brown Bag Concert Series\, presented by Mechanics Hall and 90.5 FM WICN\, has been a beloved tradition in Worcester since 1983. SUMMARY:Spring 2026 Brown Bag Concert Series featuring Midori and JOMP
DESCRIPTION:Midori is a visionary artist\, activist and educator who explores and builds connections between music and the human experience. In the four decades since her debut with the New York Philharmonic at age 11\, the “simply magical” (Houston Chronicle) violinist has performed with many of the world’s most prestigious orchestras and has collaborated with world-renowned musicians including Leonard Bernstein\, Yo-Yo Ma\, and many others. Midori is the newly appointed Artistic Director of Ravinia Steans Music Institute’s Piano & Strings program and oversees the program beginning in summer 2024. \nMidori celebrated her 40th anniversary last season with Warner Classics’ release of the complete Beethoven sonatas for piano and violin with pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and a Beethoven Trios concert tour on three continents. \nShe began the current season with a summer appearance at the Santander International Festival\, followed by fall tours of Europe and North America with Festival Strings Lucerne. Other 2023-2024 season highlights include performances of Bernstein’s Serenade with the National Repertory Orchestra under Michael Stern\, WDR Symphony in Germany under Constantinos Carydis\, and Sofia Philharmonic in Bulgaria. She plays Dvořák’s Violin Concerto in A minor with the Iris Collective and Orchestra Lumos\, also under Stern’s baton\, and with the Prague Philharmonia under Eugene Tzigane; she also performs a recital at the Long Center in Austin\, Texas. In 2024 she gives two performances of the 2019 Violin Concerto An die Unsterbliche Geliebte (“To the Immortal Beloved”)\, written for her by Detlev Glanert: in January with the NDR Radiophilharmonie under Andrew Manze\, and in February with the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra\, a co-commissioner of the work. Additional 2023-2024 highlights include concerts with the KBS Symphony In Seoul and with Solistes Européens\, Luxembourg at the Luxembourg Philharmonic as well as guest appearances in Amsterdam\, Antwerp\, South America and Riga. \nDeeply committed to furthering humanitarian and educational goals\, Midori has founded several non-profit organizations; the New York City-based Midori & Friends and Japan-based MUSIC SHARING both celebrated 30th anniversaries in 2022-2023. For the Orchestra Residencies Program (ORP)\, which supports youth orchestras\, Midori commissioned a new work from composer Derek Bermel to be performed virtually during the COVID lockdown\, and ORP recently worked with the Afghan Youth Orchestra (in exile in Portugal). Midori’s Partners in Performance (PiP) helps to bring chamber music to smaller communities in the U.S.  In recognition of her work as an artist and humanitarian\, she serves as a United Nations Messenger of Peace and was named a Kennedy Center Honoree in 2021. \nBorn in Osaka in 1971\, she began her violin studies with her mother\, Setsu Goto\, at an early age. In 1982\, conductor Zubin Mehta invited the then 11-year-old Midori to perform with the New York Philharmonic in the orchestra’s annual New Year’s Eve concert\, where the foundation was laid for her subsequent career. Midori is the Dorothy Richard Starling Chair in Violin Studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. She is the recipient of honorary doctorates from Smith College\, Yale University\, Longy School of Music and Shenandoah University. The concert will take place on Wednesday\, March 26th from 12:00–1:00 PM in the Great Hall. Presented by Mechanics Hall and 90.5 FM WICN\, the Brown Bag Concert Series has been a beloved Worcester tradition since 1983\, offering free\, hour-long performances by acclaimed regional and national artists. Audience members are encouraged to bring their own lunch and enjoy cabaret-style seating\, available on a first-come\, first-served basis.  \nJazz Streams features an accomplished lineup of musicians who have made significant contributions to the New England jazz scene. Trombonist Rich Ardizzone is a classically trained performer with experience in Latin jazz\, big bands\, and a variety of ensembles. Guitarist Rich Falco is a seasoned performer\, educator\, and jazz historian with a career spanning international tours\, concert productions\, and numerous accolades. Bassist Jerry Wilfong is an active Boston-area musician who has worked with a wide range of jazz artists and recorded extensively. Drummer Bill MacGillivray has been a fixture in the Worcester music community for decades\, performing in jazz\, rock\, and blues groups while also serving as a dedicated music educator. \n\n \nRich Ardizzone\, trombone Show More is a classically trained trombonist with a bachelor’s degree in performance from Boston University and a Master of Education degree from Tufts University. He has performed with the Paul Fontaine/Jimmy Mosher Big Band\, the Brass Menagerie and a variety of Salsa and Latin bands. While playing professionally in the Boston area in the early 1960’s he was a member of Conjunto Azul\, a Latin Jazz ensemble that played at the legendary Paul’s Mall as the house band. He has performed over the years (so many years…) in Worcester with Sonic Explorers\, the Rich Falco Quartet and JOMP Faculty. He is the retired Associate Director at Joy of Music in Worcester where he still teaches.  \nRich Falco\, guitar Show Morecontinues to share much with the jazz world. He is a performing guitarist\, a university professor on the WPI faculty as Director of Jazz Studies (retired)\, a jazz concert producer who presented more than 60 jazz concerts and workshops\, a frequent high school clinician and presenter at regional\, national and international jazz education conferences\, a popular jazz festival adjudicator\, Jazz Worcester Festival co-founder and executive director\, a jazz historian and private guitar instructor. As a performing artist and educator\, he has conducted more than a dozen international concert tours to East\, Central and West Europe as well as North Africa\, The Caribbean and Canada. He has been recognized with several awards including “Jazz at Sunset Performance Award”\, the “Boots Mussulli Jazz Educator Award” and the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the International Association for Jazz Education. \nJerry Wilfong\, double bassShow More is an active Boston area freelance bassist. Jerry studied in the early seventies at Berklee College of Music\, and later with bassist Joe Holovnia. He has attended master’s classes by bassists John Clayton\, Jr. and Harvie S. Jerry performed regularly around New England in a variety of styles with many jazz ensembles\, including groups led by Paul Broadnax\, Stan Strickland\, Garrison Fewell\, Steve Soares\, Rich Falco\, Ferdinando Argenti\, Jane Miller\, Maggie Galloway\, Monica Hatch\, and Jim Porcella. He is recorded on CD’s by Sai Ghose\, Steven Kirby\, John Wilkins\, Phill Argyris and Chris Taylor\, and has toured Russia\, Romania\, and France. Jerry has performed with distinguished jazz artists Leni Stern\, John Stowell\, Richie Cole\, Joe Hunt\, Greg Abate\, Gray Sargent\, and Jon Wheatley. \nBill MacGillivray\, drumsShow More is a long-time member of the Worcester music community. After studying drum set with Fred Buda and Joe Hunt at Berklee College of Music in the early ‘70s\, Bill has played with many classic Worcester rock\, blues\, and jazz bands including Crockett\, Mitch Chakour\, The Trailers\, Wilbur and the Dukes\, and the Russo Brothers Jazz Quintet. He has also performed with Boston artists James Montgomery\, WC Handy award winners Paul Rishell and Annie Raines\, the Boston Music Award winning Dennis Brennan Band\, and folk artist Carol Noonan. Bill has been the percussion consultant for the Worcester Public Schools since ’87. He teaches drums and percussion at Burncoat High School and Burncoat Middle School\, as well as Notre Dame Academy\, and Worcester State University. He is also a coach for the Worcester Youth Symphony Orchestra. \n  \n  \nThe Brown Bag Concert Series\, presented by Mechanics Hall and 90.5 FM WICN\, has been a beloved tradition in Worcester since 1983. Saxophonist Dan Moretti recently released a new album\, titled Dan Moretti and BRAZILIA Live at the Pump House which was #1 RMR and #6 Jazz Week and stayed on the charts for 23 weeks. He brings his signature mix of jazz\, funk\, and Latin rhythms to Mechanics Hall for a performance packed with jaw-dropping rhythms and performances. With a career spanning decades\, Moretti has performed with legends like Aretha Franklin\, Ray Charles\, and Robert Plant. Whether you’re a long-time jazz fan or new to the genre\, this concert promises something special for everyone.  The quartet consists of Dan on Alto and Tenor Saxes\, Marty Richards-Drums\, Maxim Lubarsky-Piano and Lou Bocciarelli-Bass\n\n \nAbout Dan Moretti\n\nA lifelong musician and educator\, Dan Moretti launched his career at age 12 with a debut at the Newport Jazz Festival. He’s since recorded and toured internationally\, appearing with some of the best-known soul and R&B stars who recorded for Atlantic Records and Motown\, including Ray Charles\, Aretha Franklin\, Ben E.
