From its roots in African traditions to the influence of diverse cultures\, students will explore how jazz became one of America’s most celebrated musical genres.  \n🎤 Students will enjoy a live concert performance tracing the development of jazz — from early styles to modern interpretations — while learning to analyze key techniques like call-and-response. By understanding how these musical elements create unity and spark interest\, students will connect with jazz on a deeper level.  \nThrough Culture LEAP Field Trips\, Worcester students gain access to inspiring\, educational arts experiences that expand their understanding of music\, culture\, and history. Mechanics Hall is honored to be part of this vital program that fosters creativity\, curiosity\, and cultural appreciation in young learners.  \nPlease Note: This is a School Event and Not Open to the Public.  \nTeachers interested in attending can contact their school administration for more information. A prolific composer and tireless musical explorer\, Kelly continually seeks out new avenues for his creativity.   \nKelly is the recipient of the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award\, Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grant\, New York State Arts Council Individual Artist Grant and the Aaron Copland Fund. He is the co-founder and co-Artistic Director of Connection Works\, an artist-run non-profit organization based in Brooklyn. Kelly has toured throughout Southeast Asia and India as part of the Kennedy Center and US State Department sponsored Jazz Ambassador program. Other notable international performances include benefit concerts for orphan children in the Kangemi slums of Nairobi\, Kenya and a concert for the president of Costa Rica.  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The Isaiah Thomas Award is given in recognition of Distinguished Community Service in Worcester\, Massachusetts.\nHISTORY\nIn every community there are loyal men and women who unselfishly devote their time and energies to the benefit of others. They do this without expecting reward or acknowledgment\, only hoping that their efforts may help to build a better community with greater opportunities for all citizens. Such personal sacrifices and accomplishments merit sincere recognition. This recognition takes tangible form in the presentation of the Isaiah Thomas Award. \nAmong the pages of Worcester history\, one name\, more than any other\, stands out as best exemplifying community spirit – the name of Isaiah Thomas. He was a man of many accomplishments\, who was a printer\, publisher\, businessman and philanthropist. He did much to promote the betterment of Worcester in its early days. It is appropriate therefore\, that his name should be selected as the inspiration for this Award. \nA replica of Isaiah Thomas’ printing press\, the means he used to enrich the lives of his fellow citizens\, was chosen as a physical memento of the award. This showcase reflects Mechanics Hall’s commitment to supporting emerging artists and cultivating the next generation of organists.\n \nWorcester Organ Performance Series: Youth Showcase featuring Dylan Shaw & Luke Staisiunas \nWednesday\, April 8\, 2026\nDoors Open: 11:30 AM | Performance: 12:00 PM \nMechanics Hall\, Worcester\, MA  \nFree Admission  \nLunch is welcome—bring your own or pick something up at concessions! \n\n \nDylan David Shaw is Parish Organist and Director of Music at Zion Lutheran Church in Bristol\, PA. A native of Philadelphia\, he was enraptured with the pipe organ from a very young age. He began lessons on the piano at age five and then on the organ at age eleven. Dylan frequented the Grand Court at Macy’s to hear the evening concerts. Through these regular visits\, he became well acquainted with Wanamaker Grand Court Organist Peter Richard Conte and the late Michael Stairs\, former organist for The Philadelphia Orchestra.  \nDylan continued organ studies with and served as a console assistant for Michael Stairs. For nearly 11 years\, Dylan served as an Assistant Grand Court Organist for Peter Richard Conte at the Wanamaker Organ\, where he performed several concerts each week\, with programs ranging from Bach’s works to the occasional Disney tune. \n \nLuke Staisiunas is a versatile musician and technician based in Philadelphia. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma\, his studies under Dr. Adam Pajan\, Dr. Damin Spritzer\, and Dr. John Schwandt included a diverse array of musical endeavors\, alongside his training in pipe organ technology. \nAt the Wanamaker Organ\, he has served as one of Peter Richard Conte’s assistants\, filling in for recitals as required on the world-famous instrument. During the summer season\, he is a frequent performer on the world’s largest musical instrument\, the Midmer-Losh organ in Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. \nHe is regularly engaged as a freelance technician in and around Philadelphia. A prolific composer and tireless musical explorer\, Kelly continually seeks out new avenues for his creativity.   \nKelly is the recipient of the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award\, Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grant\, New York State Arts Council Individual Artist Grant and the Aaron Copland Fund. He is the co-founder and co-Artistic Director of Connection Works\, an artist-run non-profit organization based in Brooklyn. Kelly has toured throughout Southeast Asia and India as part of the Kennedy Center and US State Department sponsored Jazz Ambassador program. Other notable international performances include benefit concerts for orphan children in the Kangemi slums of Nairobi\, Kenya and a concert for the president of Costa Rica.  \n  \n

Under the operational command of President\, U.S. Naval War College\, Navy Band Northeast inspires patriotism\, elevates esprit de corps\, enhances Navy awareness and public relations\, supports recruiting and retention efforts\, preserves the nation’s musical heritage\, and projects a positive image of the Navy.\n \nThe band accomplishes its mission by providing musical support for official functions\, military ceremonies\, community outreach initiatives\, recruiting and retention efforts\, and public performances throughout a 10-state Area of Responsibility. Navy Band Northeast’s primary musical ensembles include marching and ceremonial bands\, the Pops Ensemble concert band\, Rhode Island Sound popular music group\, Jack Tar Brass Band\, Trident Brass and Crosswinds Woodwind chamber quintets\, and various protocol ensembles. DESCRIPTION:Featuring: \nWY Philharmonic & String Orchestras \n& \nQuabbin Regional School District Strings \n\nAbout The Festival \nThe Worcester Youth Orchestras is please to present the 2025 String Fest\, a collaborative concert with the Worcester Youth Philharmonic Strings & String Orchestra\, Quabbin Regional School District String Program. The performance is a capstone\, representing a year long program generously funded by the Greater Worcester Community Foundation through their Community Grant Projects.  \nOver the course of the year\, WYO & Quabbin have benefited from an Artist-in-Residence\, Patrick Chatham\, who has visited Ruggles Elementary School (Barre) each week to work side by side with young string students during the regular school day\, as well as attending WYO rehearsals and working string students in the Philharmonic & String Orchestra. Funding from the GWCF provided complimentary instruction and strengthened access to education\, working in tandem with Quabbin educators. \nToday’s performance is the culmination of this year’s work amongst all programs\, forging new relationships and opportunities for students in the Worcester and Quabbin Region. DESCRIPTION:The Varsity Vocals International Championship of A Cappella is the only international tournament that showcases the art of student a cappella singing. Our programs include both The Varsity Vocals International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) and The Varsity Vocals International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA)\, and both are dedicated to providing top-notch a cappella groups with valuable feedback from our highly qualified judges. Our young vocalists also have the opportunity to showcase their talent to an international audience and develop relationships with each other\, cultivating the art of a cappella singing and a lifelong love of music. \n\nVarsity Vocals has been the home of a cappella since 1995. We give singers in high school and college (and beyond!) the opportunity to interact\, compete\, learn from each other\, get feedback from the pros\, and perform in fantastic venues around the globe. We believe that competition fosters growth — both in vocal performance and personal development. The children will showcase the power of unity by sharing stories of personal growth and resilience through music\, reminding us all of the incredible achievements possible when we support and uplift one another.  \nThis concert is more than a performance—it’s a reflection of the MVYS program’s mission to nurture young talent\, foster a lifelong love for music in families\, and create accessible opportunities for all communities to experience the joy of music. \n\nMany Voices: Mechanics Hall Youth Singers \nMany Voices: Mechanics Hall Youth Singers is an all-city choir founded in 2022.
