This program represents diverse musical perspectives calling for peace\, human connection\, and love. Where words fail\, music can transcend all differences\, conflicts\, and limitations. In celebration of the historic figures depicted in the new portraits commission of Frederick Douglass\, Sojourner Truth and William and Martha Brown\, the musical selections are meant to empower every singer and listener so that they know they are the key to making our world a better place. \n\nMusic selections include Hall of Fame by the Script; Glorious by Stephanie Mabey/arr. Paras serves as an associate professor for Berklee College of Music in the music education department. A passionate conductor\, singer\, and educator\, he has directed performance tours across the United States and abroad. He is the artistic director for Many Voices: Mechanics Hall Youth Singers\, performing repertoire that authentically honors the mosaic of cultures represented in the ensemble. He serves as the music director for The Nashua Choral Society\, one of the premier choral ensembles in the state. Throughout the summer\, he conducts the Kodály Music Institute Choir\, which is comprised of music educators from across the globe. He co-founded two professional chamber choirs: Diamonds From The Dust and Vellichor\, where he continues to serve as a board member and singing artist. An emerging researcher\, Reagan regularly presents at research symposiums across the United States. He is a guest conductor\, clinician\, and adjudicator for various music festivals across the country.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nManaging Director\nChriston Carney\, a native of Nashville\, TN\, received his M.Mus. in Vocal Performance from the New England Conservatory\, and his B.Mus. in Music Education from Lipscomb University. He debuted as Giuseppe in Nashville Opera’s production of La Traviata\, and performs with the Boston Lyric Opera. He has been a concert soloist with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra\, Nashville Symphony\, the Heimermann Chorale\, and has extensive choral experience. His honors received include the prestigious ABRSM Diploma in Voice\, and finalist in the Alltech Vocal Scholarship Competition. A compelling recitalist\, performances include the Music at Trinity Music School and Mechanics Hall’s Concerts Plus series. He has been lead tenor at many religious organizations\, including Worcester’s Parish of All Saints. He is currently Education and Outreach Coordinator at Mechanics Hall\, and is a vocal instructor at the Pakachoag Music School of Greater Worcester.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Recital appearances take Mr. Hamelin to Vienna\, Chicago\, Toronto\, Montréal\, Napa Valley\, São Paulo\, and Bogotá\, among other venues across the world. \nThe summer of 2022 included performances at many festivals including Caramoor with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s\, Tanglewood\, Domaine Forget\, La Jolla\, Schubertiade\, and Festival International Piano. \nMr. Hamelin is an exclusive recording artist for Hyperion Records\, where his discography spans more than 70 albums\, with notable recordings of a broad range of solo\, orchestral\, and chamber repertoire. In January 2022\, the label released a two-disc set of C. P. E. Bach’s sonatas and rondos that received wide critical acclaim and in June 2022\, Hyperion released the two-disc set of William Bolcom’s The Complete Rags. \nMr. Hamelin has composed music throughout his career\, with over 30 compositions to his name. The majority of those works—including the Etudes and Toccata on L’homme armé\, commissioned by the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition—are published by Edition Peters. His most recent work\, his Piano Quintet\, was premiered in August 2022 by himself and the celebrated Dover Quartet at La Jolla Music Society. \nMr. Hamelin makes his home in the Boston area with his wife\, Cathy Fuller\, a producer and host at Classical WCRB. Born in Montreal\, he is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the German Record Critics’ Association\, and has received seven Juno Awards and 11 Grammy nominations\, and the 2018 Jean Gimbel Lane Prize in Piano Performance from Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music. In December 2020\, he was awarded the Paul de Hueck and Norman Walford Career Achievement Award for Keyboard Artistry from the Ontario Arts Foundation. Note: Bring your own “brown bag” lunch or make a purchase at concessions. \nFeaturing: \nAlexander Straus-Fausto\, organ \nCecily DeMarco\, organ \nMalik Jardine\, organ \nTickets: FREE ADMISSION – No registration required \nOpen to the public \n\n\n\n\nAbout the Artists\n\n\n\nAlexander Straus-Fausto\n\nCompleting his master’s degree in organ performance at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music\, Alexander Straus-Fausto from Kitchener\, Ontario is studying under the direction of Dr. Martin Jean. He completed his Bachelor of Music at McGill University Schulich School of Music and his secondary school studies at Michigan’s Interlochen Arts Academy. He has also studied with Dr. Alcée Chriss\, Hans-Ola Ericsson\, Dr. Isabelle Demers\, Dr. Jonathan Oldengarm\, Christian Lane\, Rachel Laurin\, Tom Bara\, Dr. Peter Nikiforuk\, and Joe Carere. While still a teenager\, Straus-Fausto undertook a Canada Council- funded summer 2019 concert tour of the UK\, playing in historic churches and cathedrals\, and in 2024 he anticipates returning for concerts at St. Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. Straus-Fausto is a member of The Diapason’s “20 under 30 class of 2023\,” which recognizes young artists under the age of 30 who have made significant contributions to the field of organ performance. Straus- Fausto was one of ten semi-finalists in the Longwood Gardens International Organ Competition 2023.\n\n \n\n\n\nMalik Jardine\n\nMalik is organ scholar at Trinity Church Wall St. He started lessons at 13 at his home church with Jennifer Shephard at the Church of the Resurrection in Queens. That also was the first church where he played a full service subbing for the organist. In 2018\, He met William Randolph\, Previous Music Director at Church of the Intercession in Manhattan\, and studied with him until his untimely death in 2021. After that\, he studied with organist Vince Carr\, Director of Sacred Music at Our Lady of The Lake.\n\nMalik started school for music in 2022 at Borough of Manhattan Community College\, and was accepted into their Applied studies program\, which now gave him the ability to Study with organist\, Dr. Nathaniel Gumbs\, Director of chapel music at Yale University. Malik will transfer to Brooklyn college\, after getting his Associate’s Degree. Malik was interim Organist/Music Director at many churches in Queens/Brooklyn.\n\n \n\n\n\nCecily DeMarco\n\nLabeled a “Rising Star” by the American Guild of Organists\, Cecily DeMarco (b.2000) is Organ Scholar at Hitchcock Presbyterian Church in Scarsdale\, NY. She is a graduate of The Juilliard School where she earned her Bachelor of Music Degree. Currently\, Cecily is in the Master of Music program at Juilliard and will continue to study with world renowned\, Grammy award winning artist\, Paul Jacobs.\n\nCecily has performed on both the east and west coasts\, but most frequently in New York and Florida\, appearing at venues such as St. Patrick’s Cathedral (NYC)\, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church (NYC)\, Columbia University (NYC)\, Bethesda by the Sea (Palm Beach)\, and Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church (Fort Lauderdale).\nIn 2021\, Miss DeMarco competed and won first prize in the New York City Chapter of the Regional Competition for Young Organists (RCYO)\, and proceeded to also win first prize in the Northeast Regional Competition. Because of this win\, she participated as a “Rising Star” in a winner’s concert at the 2022 American Guild of Organists National Convention in Seattle\, Washington.\n\n

Prior to his current position\, Chris served over 30 years with Unum Group and its predecessor companies. While at Unum\, he became senior vice president and general counsel at Unum US\, the largest provider of group and individual disability insurance in the U.S. Chris is very active in the Worcester Community. He has served on numerous Boards for non-profits in Worcester. He was the Chair of the Nativity School for six years and was a member of its Board for nine; he has been Council Member and corporator for the American Antiquarian Society; he served as Chair of the Greater Worcester Community Foundation and has been a Board member as well; he served as a past Trustee\, President\, Trustee Emeritus\, Salisbury Society member & Co-Chair\, for the Worcester Art Museum; Chris has served as the Campaign Chair for the United Way of Central Massachusetts and on the UW’s Alexis De Tocqueville Society; he has been a Board member and Board President of The Bridge of Central Massachusetts; he has been the Campaign Chair for ArtsWorcester’s Framing the Future Capital Campaign; he has also been a member of the College of the Holy Cross’ Board of Trustees\, Presidents Council\, and Chair of the Class of 1980. As a leader in Worcester-area not-for-profits\, he has received numerous accolades from the Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance\, March of Dimes\, Boy Scouts of America\, United Way\, the Nativity School\, and more.
