Rose Baldino and Brian Buchanan first found themselves onstage together at the 2014 Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City. Rose’s band Burning Bridget Cleary was scheduled to perform\, but inclement weather prevented two of her bandmates from flying. Desperate to salvage the showcase\, Rose approached Brian\, who she knew fronted Canadian celtic rock band Enter the Haggis. She thrust a guitar into Brian’s hands\, pulled him onstage\, and the two just clicked. A prolific composer and tireless musical explorer\, Kelly continually seeks out new avenues for his creativity.   \nKelly is the recipient of the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award\, Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grant\, New York State Arts Council Individual Artist Grant and the Aaron Copland Fund. He is the co-founder and co-Artistic Director of Connection Works\, an artist-run non-profit organization based in Brooklyn. Kelly has toured throughout Southeast Asia and India as part of the Kennedy Center and US State Department sponsored Jazz Ambassador program. One of the Foundation’s most popular events is the John Philip Sousa National High School Honor Band. This program has been in existence since 1980 and has created outstanding opportunities for some of the most competent high school musicians in the country to come together and make music in the finest honors band setting.\n\nIn commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America\, the Sousa NHS Honor Band is pleased to welcome a special ensemble to open this performance: The Concord Band of Concord\, Massachusetts\, under the direction of Mr. James O’Dell. \n\n \nMichael J. Colburn\nConductor \n\nMichael J. Colburn is a freelance guest conductor and clinician who regularly leads professional and student ensembles in festivals\, residencies\, and a variety of other settings throughout the country In June 2024 he was appointed Music Director and Conductor of the Orchestra of Northern New York\, a professional orchestra based in Potsdam\, NY. He is also the Music Director and Conductor of the Me2 Orchestra in Burlington\, VT\, a classical music organization devoted to erasing the stigma of mental illness through supportive rehearsals and inspiring performances\, and he also serves as an Affiliate Artist at the University of Vermont. In 2024 he became a member of the Educational Consultant team at the Conn Selmer Division of Education. From 2014 until 2022\, Colburn served as the Director of Bands at Butler University in Indianapolis\, where he conducted the Butler University Wind Ensemble and offered instruction in conducting\, euphonium\, and the history and literature of the wind band. Before his tenure at Butler\, Colburn served for 27 years in “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band\, where he held a variety of positions including Principal Euphonium (1991-1996)\, Assistant Director (1996-2004)\, and Director (2004-2014). As Director\, Colburn was music advisor to White House and regularly conducted the Marine Band and Chamber Orchestra at the Executive Mansion and at the Presidential Inaugurations of George W. Bush and Barack Obama. He was promoted to Colonel by President Bush in a private Oval Office ceremony in 2007\, and in 2014 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal by Gen James Amos\, Commandant of the Marine Corps\, and the Medal of Honor by the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic Board of Directors. \nCommitted to the promotion of new music\, Colburn has commissioned band works from several highly accomplished composers including John Williams\, Michael Abels\, Stacy Garrop\, Michael Gandolfi\, David Rakowski\, Melinda Wagner\, Michael Schelle\, and Frank Felice. He has served as the chair of the Sousa-ABA-Ostwald Award\, and as an adjudicator for the Sudler Award\, the Barlow Endowment\, Music for All\, and the Col. George S. Howard Award for Excellence in Military Bands. Colburn is a Past President of the American Bandmasters Association\, has been a board member of the National Band Association\, and currently serves as Vice President for Project Enhancement for the John Philip Sousa Foundation. \n\nAbout the John Philip Sousa National High School Honor Band \nThe John Philip Sousa Foundation offers many dynamic programs to support the cause of wind band music around the country as a way to bring honor to that most famous and respected of bandsmen\, John Philip Sousa. She received degrees from the University of Nebraska and Indiana University and studied in Paris with Jean Langlais. She has performed in Latvia and Sweden\, for twenty-three national conventions of the Organ Historical Society\, a national convention of the American Guild of Organists\, the East Texas Pipe Organ Festival\, and Piccolo Spoleto in Charleston\, SC. She received the annual Distinguished Service Award of the Organ Historical Society and is a pianist in the Boston Symphony Café.\n\n\n\n \n\nLouise Mundinger is the Music Director at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul. She is a past Dean of the Boston Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (BAGO)\, and was\, for six years\, the director of the National New Music committee for the AGO. Her focus is to bring music for the pipe organ to new audiences\, and for people to hear the stories music tells. Louise Mundinger was a recipient of the Frank Huntington Beebe award for musicians\, which allowed her to study organ performance with Zsigmond Szathmáry in Freiburg\, Germany. She was a prize winner in the San Anselmo Organ Improvisation Competition and\, In 2008 Louise Mundinger was awarded the Talbot Baker Teaching Award at Milton Academy. She has been commissioned to write new music by\, among others\, the American Guild of Organists\, The American Composers Forum (the Faith Partners program)\, and the Diocese of Massachusetts. It is a record of labor\, resistance\, reinvention\, and style. This textile’s history begins with exploitation and enslaved labor. Rugged and transcendent\, the garment became a symbol of resistance\, solidarity with the working class\, and youthful rebellion. From patchwork to embellishments\, from indigo to acid wash\, this textile embodies our uniqueness and authenticity.  \nQueer AF uplifts LGBTQIA+ artists with a dazzling display of fashion\, drag\, dance\, and music. Our 2026 show will be a multitude of textures. At Queer AF in Denim\, designers will imagine new tales to tell with this storied fabric\, and shades of blue will pop on the runway. Drag and performance artists will shine on stage. Our home-grown runway features dozens of local models strutting in bespoke looks.
