SUMMARY:Queer AF 2024: I'm with the Banned
DESCRIPTION:The Queer Met Gala of Massachusetts is back! Tickets for #QueerAF2024 are finally here – get yours today.\n\n\n\nThis year’s theme is “I’m with the Banned.” Our books won’t be banished. Our voices won’t be silenced. We won’t be erased.\n\n\n\nFriday\, September 6th\n\n5:30 PM – 11:00 PM\n\n13+\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets on Eventbrite\n\n\n\nQueer AF\, presented by Love Your Labels\, is more than a fashion show: It is a declaration. Through the theme “I’m with the banned\,” Queer AF 2024 channels the spirit of resistance that runs deep in our community. We come together not just to celebrate our art\, fashion\, and expression\, but to loudly proclaim that our voices will not be silenced\, our books will not be banished\, and our existence will not be erased. Through every stitch and every word\, we honor all individuals facing oppression and collectively fight back against the tide of censorship.\n\nJoin us for a vibrant celebration of queerness and powerful resistance\, where every garment worn is a battle cry for freedom\, a love letter to those who have been silenced\, and a beacon of hope for a future where our stories are told and cherished.\n\n\n\nQueer AF is organized by Love Your Labels\, a nonprofit that supports and uplifts LGBTQ+ youth through art\, fashion\, and design\, and works with families and communities to create inclusive and loving spaces everywhere. All funds raised from Queer AF benefit Love Your Labels’ LGBTQ+ youth programs.\n\n\n\nYouth Space (Ages 13-17)\n\nLove Your Labels exists because of and for LGBTQ+ youth. Aligned with Love Your Labels’ commitment to young people\, Queer AF 2024 — I’m with the Banned will have a designated seating area specifically for teens ages 13 to 17 that will offer fun accessories and other surprises for youth to enjoy.\n\nThe youth area will be entirely alcohol-free and supervised by adult members of the Love Your Labels volunteer team. Youth participants with a completed Love Your Labels permission slip may attend Queer AF 2024 independently until 11 p.m. Youth participants without a permission slip will require an 18+ chaperone for the duration of the show.\n\nWe recognize that it can be challenging for LGBTQ+ youth to develop personal connections in their schools and communities. This is why we encourage young folx to embrace this opportunity to mix and mingle with other like-minded youth to make lasting connections.\n\nQueer AF is a force that builds community and cherishes every voice. Together\, we are unbreakable.\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Worcester Economic Club: Jeff Greene
DESCRIPTION:Registration & More Information\n\n\nJeff Greene was born in 1954 in Worcester\, Massachusetts. His father ran a business selling used textile machinery and his mother was a religious school teacher. His parents taught and instilled in him a strong set of economic values that would become the basis of a long and fortuitous career in real estate investment and development and business. \nA 1972 graduate of Worcester’s Doherty High School\, Greene worked his way through The Johns Hopkins University teaching religious school three days a week and checking ID’s outside the Hopkins gym\, as well as working winter vacations as a busboy and waiter at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach\, Florida. He received his BA in economics and sociology from Johns Hopkins in just two and a half years. After Johns Hopkins\, Greene worked on‐the‐road as a circus promoter for almost 3 years\, saving the seed capital for what would become a billion dollar real estate portfolio. After his time with the circus \, Greene attended Harvard Business School where he received his MBA in 1979. \nWhile at Harvard\, Greene began investing in residential real estate by purchasing a 3‐family home not far from the Cambridge campus. He gained a quick understanding of the real estate business\, and by the time he completed his second year he had accumulated 18 properties and a net worth of over a million dollars. Post Harvard\, Greene moved to Los Angeles where he was able to successfully navigate a roller coaster real estate market through the 80’s and 90’s. By 2006\, he had accumulated a $1 billion real estate portfolio\, but he worried about the possible collapse of the real estate market. In response\, Greene devised a hedge for that portfolio in which he would short what he determined were enormously overvalued subprime mortgage backed securities. His investment has been described as the most successful trade in history by an individual on Wall Street. \nIn 2010\, and now a resident of  Florida\, Greene felt that the country was heading in the wrong direction and ran for the Democratic nomination for United States Senate\, for which he was defeated. \nGreene manages a vast portfolio of financial investments in real estate\, hospitality and energy. He is an active philanthropist supporting a variety of charities and is a signatory to the Buffet‐Gates Giving Pledge.

SUMMARY:Club 321 Featuring Ali McGuirk
DESCRIPTION:Blending classic soul power with a folk songwriter lyricism\, New England’s Ali McGuirk has the rare ability to silence a room with just a few words of a song. With a voice that is raw and sultry and a style rooted in improvisation\, her sets are a hypnotic and intimate journey.\n \n\n“With all the hooks of Lake Street Dive but more earthy tenderness and smart introspection\, McGuirk will be the Bay State’s next big export.”\n\n– BOSTON HERALD\n\n“Powerfully stunning vocals… the most outstanding performance of the day.”\n\n— GLIDE MAGAZINE\n\n“‘Til It’s Gone’ is more than just a showcase of musicianship. McGuirk brings a songwriter’s sensibility\, and a millennial’s perspective\, to her lyrics… In just a few deft strokes\, McGuirk\n paints a devastating and deeply human picture..” \n\n– WBUR\n \n\nOn her Signature Sounds Recordings debut ’Til It’s Gone\, McGuirk delivers a sublime set of songs that pairs her trademark soul sound with rootsy turns and raw rock ‘n’ roll detours. The album landed on the Boston Globe’s Top 50 Albums list for 2022. Consequence of Sound raved\, “All Back’ feels like it could exist somewhere outside of space and time– it could be on a record in the background of a party in a 1970s bungalow\, or it could be on your Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify. Either way\, it’s a great listen.”\n \n\nMcGuirk co-produced ‘Til It’s Gone with Jonah Tolchin (a star singer-songwriter in his own right) and a set of session legends: Little Feat guitarist/mandolinist Fred Tackett\, organist Larry Goldings (James Taylor\, Norah Jones)\, singer Valerie Pinkston (Ray Charles\, Luther Vandross)\, percussionist Lenny Castro (Stevie Nicks\, Stevie Wonder). They provided the astounding chops\, but the true magic of the album comes from McGuirk’s singular voice as both singer and songwriter. The nine tracks run from intimate introspection to wider meditations on oppression and justice\, from tough r&b and tender soul to big rock guitar and twangy folk. And McGuirk’s voice – bold\, buttery\, spellbinding – carries each song to the next til they’re gone. \n\n\n\n\nalimcguirk.com\n\n\n\n\nTickets: $20 Advance Purchase | $23 at the Door\nMembers: 15% discount off single ticket (enter your promo code when checking out)\nTime: Doors 6:15pm | Show 7:00pm\nAudience: 18+\n \nCash bar and refreshments available for purchase \n\nBuy Tickets\n\n\n\n\nMechanics Hall is walking distance from all downtown locations. SUMMARY:Music Worcester presents: Philip Glass Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Philip Glass Ensemble\n\n\nThe Philip Glass Ensemble (PGE) comprises the principal performers of the music of Philip Glass. In 1968\, Glass founded the PGE in New York City as a laboratory for his music. Its purpose was to develop a performance practice to meet the unprecedented technical and artistic demands of his compositions. In pioneering this approach\, the PGE became a creative wellspring for Glass\, and its members remain inimitable interpreters of his work.\n\nThe artists of the PGE recognize their unique position in the history of music of the past half-century\, and passing on that legacy is part of their practice. A deep dedication to educating the next generation of musicians is integral to the PGE’s work\, both on tour and as the Ensemble-in-Residence at The Philip Glass Institute at The New School.\n\nThe PGE debuted at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1969\, and in its early years performed primarily in the galleries\, artist lofts\, and museums of SoHo’s then-thriving artistic community. In the five decades since\, the PGE has performed in world-renowned music festivals and concert halls across five continents\, and has made records with Sony\, Nonesuch\, and Orange Mountain Music.\n\nMany of Philip Glass’s most celebrated works were expressly composed for the PGE: its core concert pieces Music in Twelve Parts\, Music in Similar Motion\, and Music with Changing Parts; the opera and musical theater projects Einstein on the Beach\, Hydrogen Jukebox\, 1000 Airplanes on the Roof\, Monsters of Grace; and the full-length dance works Dance (Lucinda Childs) and A Descent Into the Maelström (Australian Dance Theater). The PGE is most widely acclaimed for its soundtracks to Godfrey Reggio’s trilogy of wordless films: Koyaanisqatsi\, Powaqqatsi\, and Naqoyqatsi. It is also featured in Glass’s operas La Belle et la Bête and The Photographer.\n\n \n\n\nTICKETS\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\nMusic in Eight Parts (1969/2017)\nGlassworks (1981)
