SUMMARY:Music Worcester presents: Kyung-Wha Chung: Violin Recital
DESCRIPTION:Kyung-Wha Chung: Violin Recital\n\n\n\n\nWith Kevin Kenner\, piano\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTouring with pianist Kevin Kenner\, violinist Kyung-Wha Chung is performing three violin sonatas showcasing her extraordinary skill and musicality. Her acclaim began in the 1970s as Itzhak Perlman’s substitute with the London Symphony Orchestra\, and since then she’s collected recognition for solo recordings\, chamber music\, and her teaching residency at Julliard.  \nKyung-Wha Chung is a South Korean-born violinist\, who brings her renowned musicality to performances with the world’s most prestigious orchestras under the baton of conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle\, Claudio Abbado\, and Bernard Haitink. Chung has pleased millions of listeners with her powerful sound. She’s spent her career bringing audiences together to hear the limitless sound of the violin\, and brings that same grandiosity to Worcester. \nIn this rich program for violin and piano\, Chung explores the personalities of the violin through many thematic voices. These works display lush\, intense\, and virtuosic writing for violin\, drawing the listener in with natural moments of introspection followed by passionate explosions of sound. From Grieg’s romance to Schumann’s precision\, this program – while delicate\, lyrical\, and dramatic – is inspirational. \nTickets sold through Music Worcester\nTickets & More Information

SUMMARY:Music Worcester presents: Orchestre National de France & Daniil Trifonov\, piano
DESCRIPTION:Learn more & Buy Tickets\nTickets sold through Music Worcester \n\n\n\n\nIn this brilliant presentation of French music\, Orchestre National de France and Grammy- winning pianist Daniil Trifonov perform the works of Barriaine\, Ravel\, and Saint-Saëns. Under the baton of Cristian Măcelaru\,  this masterful program stuns in the musical story it provides\, bringing the listener on a picturesque journey from start to finish. \n\nThe programming of Elsa Barraine’s Symphony No. 2 with its’ gumptous string lines that compliment the playfulness of the work’s structure sits beautifully in the program with Ravel’s Daphnis & Chloé. A grandiose work\, Ravel envisioned Daphnis & Chloé as “a vast musical fresco\, in which [he] was less concerned with archaism than with fidelity to the Greece of [his] dreams.”  \nThe two piano concertos on this program – Ravel and Saint-Saëns’ – bring different stylistic characters to the stage: Saint-Saëns offering late romantic era lushness and Ravel offering the lavish fancy. Hearing these two works performed by Trifonov\, a performer with a dedication to perfecting concerto repertoire for piano\, is iconic.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPROGRAM\nElsa Barraine – Symphony No. 2\nCamille Saint-Saëns – Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor\nMaurice Ravel – Piano Concerto in G major\nMaurice Ravel – Daphnis & Chloé\n\n\n\n\nOrchestre National de France \nThe Orchestre National de France is both an established authority and a dynamic force in the interpretation of French music. Its international tours have made it a flagship for French culture across the world\, while its presence throughout France\, reinforced by vibrant educational programmes\, has cemented its relationship with a diversity of national audiences.\n\nShow More \n\nA Radio France ensemble\, the Orchestre National de France was founded in 1934 as the country’s first full-time symphony orchestra. Its mission to serve the symphonic repertoire was furthered by radio broadcasts of its concerts\, and it soon achieved an enviable reputation.  \nAfter the Second World War\, Manuel Rosenthal\, André Cluytens and Jean Martinon\, among others\, enriched this tradition\, magnified by successive musical directors (Lorin Maazel\, Charles Dutoit\, Kurt Masur\, Daniele Gatti\, Emmanuel Krivine) and regular guests (Leonard Bernstein\, Pierre Boulez\, Bernard Haitink\, Riccardo Muti\, Seiji Ozawa…). On September 1\, 2020\, Cristian Măcelaru took over as Music Director of the Orchestre National de France.  \nIn the course of the 20th century the Orchestre National de France gave the premieres of a number of major works\, including Le Soleil des eaux by Boulez\, Déserts by Varèse\, Messiaen’s Turangalîla Symphony (French premiere)\, Xenakis’s Jonchaies and the majority of Dutilleux’s large-scale compositions. \nNumerous recordings by the orchestra are commercially available. The Orchestre National\, under the baton of Louis Langrée\, recorded Ravel’s two piano concertos with pianist Alexandre Tharaud\, and to mark the centenary of the death of Camille Saint-Saëns\, a complete set of symphonies conducted by Cristian Măcelaru for Warner Classics. Finally\, a boxed set of George Enescu’s symphonies conducted by Cristian Măcelaru has been released in 2024 by Deutsche Grammophon. \n\n\n\n \nCristian Măcelaru \n\nGRAMMY® Award-winning conductor Cristian Măcelaru is the Music Director Designate of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra\, where he leads his inaugural season as Music Director in 2025/26. Măcelaru holds the titles of Artistic Director of the George Enescu Festival and Competition\, Music Director of the Orchestre National de France\, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Interlochen Center for the Arts’ World Youth Symphony Orchestra\, Music Director and Conductor of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music and Chief Conductor of the WDR Sinfonieorchester in Cologne\, where he will serve through the 2024/25 season and continue as Artistic Partner for the 2025/26 season. \nShow More \nMăcelaru recently appeared at the Paris 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony which was broadcast to 1.5 billion viewers worldwide. He led the Orchestre National de France and Chœur de Radio France in the performance of the Olympic Anthem as the Olympic Flag was raised beneath the Eiffel Tower. Măcelaru and the Orchestre National de France continue their 2024/25 season in tours throughout France\, Germany\, South Korea and China as well as a series of concerts in Paris celebrating the 150th anniversary of Ravel’s birth.  \n2024/25 marks Măcelaru’s final season as Chief Conductor of the WDR Sinfonieorchester\, which he leads in a tour of Germany including performances in Cologne and Munich. Guest appearances include Măcelaru’s debuts with the Oslo Philharmonic and RAI National Symphony Orchestra of Turin as well as returns with the Wiener Symphoniker\, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra\, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra\, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich in Europe. North American returns include the Pittsburgh Symphony\, Baltimore Symphony\, Minnesota Orchestra and St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. \nMăcelaru’s previous seasons include European engagements with the Philharmonia\, London Philharmonic Orchestra\, NDR Elbphilharmonie\, Concertgebouworkest\, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks\, Staatskapelle Berlin and Budapest Festival Orchestra. In North America\, he has led the New York Philharmonic\, Los Angeles Philharmonic\, National Symphony Orchestra\, Chicago Symphony Orchestra\, Boston Symphony Orchestra\, San Francisco Symphony and The Cleveland Orchestra. Măcelaru maintains an especially close collaboration with the Philadelphia Orchestra\, where he previously held the position of Conductor-in-Residence for three seasons. He is equally at home as a conductor of opera\, including productions of Don Giovanni with the Houston Grand Opera and Madama Butterfly with Opera Națională București.  \nIn 2020\, Măcelaru received a GRAMMY® Award for conducting the Decca Classics recording of Wynton Marsalis’ Violin Concerto with Nicola Benedetti and the Philadelphia Orchestra. He has released an array of albums including the complete symphonies of Saint-Saëns on Warner Classics with the Orchestre National de France as well as albums featuring works by Bartók and Dvořák on Linn Records with the WDR Sinfonieorchester. Măcelaru’s Linn Records album\, Brahms: Piano Concertos with Simon Trpčeski and the WDR Sinfonieorchester\, was featured in Classic FM’s November 2023 “Album of the Week” as well as BBC Music Magazine’s January 2024 “Concerto Choice.” His highly anticipated recording of Enescu’s Symphonies 1-3 and the composer’s two Romanian Rhapsodies with the Orchestre National de France was released in April 2024 on Deutsche Grammophon. The album won the 2024 Diapason d’Or of the Year and was featured on WRTI’s June 2024 “Best Classical Music Albums Released in 2024 (So Far)”. \nHe also makes a great effort to open classical music to a broader audience through accessibility and education. In his role as Chief Conductor with the WDR Sinfonieorchester\, he created the ensemble’s Kurz und Klassic program\, in which he shares personal insight into each of the major compositions chosen for performance. This video series has built a significant following\, a testament to Măcelaru’s continued impact in bringing audiences closer to the music. With the Orchestre National de France\, he created a new series of concerts\, L’œuvre augmentée\, conceived to deepen patrons’ appreciation of the music by offering insights into the themes and backgrounds of the works presented. Most recently\, in his Artistic Director role with the George Enescu Festival and Competition\, Măcelaru has created a new series of concerts for children as part of an initiative to enrich and modernize the festival. Emphasizing contemporary compositions\, these programs enhance listeners’ appreciation of the music while promoting social values of equality\, empowerment and diversity. He has also increased invitations for women conductors and implemented mental and physical well-being sessions for Competition participants. Through a historic collaboration with organizations including Romania’s Special Olympics\, Măcelaru and the Festival are striving to modernize Romania’s concert halls to make them more accessible. For the 2024 George Enescu International Competition\, Măcelaru and competition organizers received a record-breaking 555 applications from 57 countries. \nWith the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music\, Măcelaru has helped nurture the collaborative spirit underlying the festival’s core mission. Using his leadership role as a platform for engagement\, he has brought artists\, audience members\, and festival executives into a shared creative process through open rehearsals and interaction with the composers in residence. Through the Cabrillo Emerging Black Composers Prize\, Măcelaru and Cabrillo have partnered with the Emerging Black Composers Project\, a ten-year commitment to spotlight early-career Black American composers and their music. \nA champion of commissioning and premiering the music of today\, Mӑcelaru has commissioned premieres from 52 composers across his titled positions in Paris\, Cologne and Cabrillo. This illustrious group of composers includes Wynton Marsalis\, Tan Dun\, Gabriela Lena Frank\, Jennifer Higdon\, Jake Heggie\, Nico Muhly\, Sean Shepherd and Gabriella Smith. \nMăcelaru devotes significant time to mentoring young musicians in his capacity as an educator\, continuing the great legacy of the Cabrillo Conductors / Composers Workshop that brings together the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra and leading faculty with early career conductors and composers for a professional training program focused on the creation and performance of new music. He also holds annual conducting masterclasses in Timisoara with the Romanian Chamber Orchestra and each year calls for scores from young Romanian composers. More than 40 compositions thus far have been written through this initiative. This season\, Măcelaru will also work with young musicians during his residency at the Kronberg Academy in Germany. \nMăcelaru was born in Timișoara\, Romania and comes from a musical family. As the youngest of ten children\, all of whom received instrumental lessons at an early age\, Măcelaru excelled on the violin. His studies took him from Romania to the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan\, University of Miami in Florida and Rice University in Houston\, where he studied conducting with Larry Rachleff. He then deepened his knowledge at Tanglewood Music Center and Aspen Music Festival in masterclasses with David Zinman\, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos\, Oliver Knussen and Stefan Asbury. \nMăcelaru was the youngest concertmaster in the history of the Miami Symphony Orchestra and made his Carnegie Hall debut with that orchestra at the age of 19. He also played in the first violin section of the Houston Symphony for two seasons. His international career was launched in 2012 when he was asked to step in for Pierre Boulez with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. During that same year\, he received the Solti Emerging Conductor Award\, followed by the Solti Conducting Award in 2014. \n \n\n  \nDaniil Trifonov\n \nGrammy Award-winning pianist Daniil Trifonov (dan-EEL TREE-fon-ov) has made a spectacular ascent of the classical music world\, as a solo artist\, champion of the concerto repertoire\, chamber and vocal collaborator\, and composer. Combining consummate technique with rare sensitivity and depth\, his performances are a perpetual source of awe. “He has everything and more\, … tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that\,” marveled pianist Martha Argerich. With Transcendental\, the Liszt collection that marked his third title as an exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist\, Trifonov won the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Solo Album of 2018. Named Gramophone’s 2016 Artist of the Year and Musical America’s 2019 Artist of the Year\, he was made a “Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” by the French government in 2021. As The Times of London notes\, he is “without question the most astounding pianist of our age.”\n\nShow More \nTrifonov undertakes season-long artistic residencies with both the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Czech Philharmonic in 2024-25. A highlight of his Chicago residency is Brahms’s Second Piano Concerto with Klaus Mäkelä\, and his Czech tenure features Dvořák’s Piano Concerto with Semyon Bychkov\, first at season-opening concerts in Prague and then on tour in Toronto and at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Trifonov also opens the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra’s season with Mozart’s 25th Piano Concerto under Andris Nelsons; performs Prokofiev’s Second with the San Francisco Symphony and Esa-Pekka Salonen; reprises Dvořák’s concerto for a European tour with Jakub Hrůša and the Bamberg Symphony; plays Ravel’s G-major Concerto with Hamburg’s NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and Alan Gilbert; and joins Rafael Payare and the Montreal Symphony for concertos by Schumann and Beethoven on a major European tour of London\, Amsterdam\, Luxembourg\, Paris\, Hamburg\, Berlin\, Munich\, and Vienna. In recital\, Trifonov appears twice more at Carnegie Hall\, first on a solo tour that also takes in Chicago and Philadelphia\, and then with violinist Leonidas Kavakos\, with whom he also appears in Chicago\, Boston\, Kansas City\, and Washington\, DC. Fall 2024 brings the release of My American Story\, the pianist’s new Deutsche Grammophon double album\, which pairs solo pieces with concertos by Gershwin and Mason Bates. Bates’s concerto is dedicated to Trifonov and both orchestral works were captured live with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Philadelphia Orchestra\, who previously partnered with the pianist on his award-winning Destination Rachmaninov series. \nLast season\, Trifonov performed Brahms concertos with the Cleveland Orchestra\, Los Angeles Philharmonic\, Atlanta Symphony\, and Toronto Symphony; Schumann’s with the New York Philharmonic; Mozart’s “Jeunehomme” at Carnegie Hall\, the Kennedy Center\, and other U.S. venues with the Rotterdam Philharmonic; Chopin with the Orchestre de Paris; Bates’s Concerto with the Chicago Symphony\, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia\, and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin; and Gershwin and Rachmaninov with the Philadelphia Orchestra\, at home and on a European tour. In recital\, he joined cellist Gautier Capuçon for dates in Europe and toured a new solo program to such musical hotspots as Vienna\, Munich\, Barcelona\, Madrid\, Venice\, Milan\, Boston\, San Francisco\, Dallas\, and New York\, at Carnegie Hall. \nIn fall 2022\, Trifonov headlined the season-opening galas of Washington’s National Symphony Orchestra and New York’s Carnegie Hall\, where his Opening Night concert with the Philadelphia Orchestra marked the first of his four appearances at the venue in 2022-23. Other recent highlights include a multi-faceted\, season-long tenure as 2019-20 Artist-in-Residence of the New York Philharmonic\, featuring the New York premiere of his own Piano Quintet; a season-long Carnegie Hall “Perspectives” series; the world premiere performances of Bates’s Piano Concerto with ensembles including the co-commissioning Philadelphia Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony; playing Tchaikovsky’s First under Riccardo Muti in the historic gala finale of the Chicago Symphony’s 125th-anniversary celebrations; launching the New York Philharmonic’s 2018-19 season; headlining complete Rachmaninov concerto cycles at the New York Philharmonic’s Rachmaninov Festival and with London’s Philharmonia Orchestra and the Munich Philharmonic; undertaking season-long residencies with the Berlin Philharmonic\, Rotterdam Philharmonic\, Radio France\, and at Vienna’s Musikverein\, where he appeared with the Vienna Philharmonic and gave the Austrian premiere of his own Piano Concerto; and headlining the Berlin Philharmonic’s famous New Year’s Eve concert under Sir Simon Rattle. \nSince making solo recital debuts at Carnegie Hall\, London’s Wigmore Hall\, Vienna’s Musikverein\, Japan’s Suntory Hall\, and Paris’s Salle Pleyel in 2012-13\, Trifonov has given solo recitals at venues including the Kennedy Center in Washington DC; Boston’s Celebrity Series; London’s Barbican\, Royal Festival\, and Queen Elizabeth Halls; Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw (Master Piano Series); Berlin’s Philharmonie; Munich’s Herkulessaal; Bavaria’s Schloss Elmau; Zurich’s Tonhalle; the Lucerne Piano Festival; the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels; the Théâtre des Champs Élysées and Auditorium du Louvre in Paris; Barcelona’s Palau de la Música; Tokyo’s Opera City; the Seoul Arts Center; and Melbourne’s Recital Centre. \nLast season\, Deutsche Grammophon released a deluxe CD & Blu-Ray edition of the pianist’s best-selling 2021 album Bach: The Art of Life. Featuring Bach’s masterpiece The Art of Fugue\, as completed by Trifonov himself\, the recording scored the pianist his sixth Grammy nomination\, while an accompanying music video was recognized with the 2022 Opus Klassik Public Award. Trifonov also received Opus Klassik’s 2021 Instrumentalist of the Year/Piano award for Silver Age\, his album of Russian solo and orchestral piano music by Scriabin\, Prokofiev\, and Stravinsky. Released in fall 2020\, this followed 2019’s Destination Rachmaninov: Arrival\, for which the pianist received a 2021 Grammy nomination. Presenting the composer’s First and Third Concertos\, Arrival represents the third volume of the DG series Trifonov recorded with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Nézet-Séguin\, following Destination Rachmaninov: Departure\, named BBC Music’s 2019 Concerto Recording of the Year\, and Rachmaninov: Variations\, a 2015 Grammy nominee. DG has also issued Chopin Evocations\, which pairs the composer’s works with those by the 20th-century composers he influenced\, and Trifonov: The Carnegie Recital\, the pianist’s first recording as an exclusive DG artist\, which captured his sold-out 2013 Carnegie Hall recital debut live and secured him his first Grammy nomination. \nIt was during the 2010-11 season that Trifonov won medals at three of the music world’s most prestigious competitions\, taking Third Prize in Warsaw’s Chopin Competition\, First Prize in Tel Aviv’s Rubinstein Competition\, and both First Prize and Grand Prix – an additional honor bestowed on the best overall competitor in any category – in Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Competition. In 2013 he was awarded the prestigious Franco Abbiati Prize for Best Instrumental Soloist by Italy’s foremost music critics. \nBorn in Nizhny Novgorod in 1991\, Trifonov began his musical training at the age of five\, and went on to attend Moscow’s Gnessin School of Music as a student of Tatiana Zelikman\, before pursuing his piano studies with Sergei Babayan at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He has also studied composition\, and continues to write for piano\, chamber ensemble\, and orchestra. When he premiered his own Piano Concerto\, the Cleveland Plain Dealer marveled: “Even having seen it\, one cannot quite believe it. Such is the artistry of pianist-composer Daniil Trifonov.”

DESCRIPTION:Artist: Mark Mandeville & Raianne Richards \n\nMassachusetts-based Musicians  \nLittle by little\, you will get to know Mark Mandeville & Raianne Richards through their unmistakable vocal harmonies\, poetic lyrics and down-to-earth personae. They are a married musical couple based out of Webster\, Massachusetts.  These prolific and hard-working Massachusetts-based artists have contributed over seventeen albums within their first decade and toured consistently throughout the US and Canada.  \nTouches of Nature & Post-Industrial Era  \nTheir songs poetically reflect personal experiences as factory workers\, teachers\, community organizers\, and natives of post-industrial mill towns in central Massachusetts. The memories of days gone by and toils of history can be better remembered through songs such as “That Old Machine” or “Winds of Change.” Listeners feel refreshed lyrics with references to elements in nature.  \nMultiple Musical Instruments  \nAccompanying themselves on guitar\, harmonica\, ukulele\, penny whistle\, electric bass\, and most uniquely clarinet\, their live performances are both musically captivating and spiritually uplifting as audiences are carefully balanced between serious songs and humorous commentary – concert goers will leave feeling a bit more human\, as if they have experienced something genuine.  \nMark & Raianne are famous among regional fans for their annual Massachusetts Walking Tour which defines them as true troubadours journeying with their instruments and humble voices\, from stage to stage\, town to town throughout the state on foot each June.  \n\nExperience a different side of Mechanics Hall\, in our warm and intimate Washburn Hall\, transformed one Thursday night a month into your favorite club. SUMMARY:The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 15\, 2025 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM (Doors open at 2:15pm) \nDoors open at 2:15pm \n\nOn November 15\, The World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform their greatest hits\, including “In The Mood”\, “Chattanooga Choo Choo”\, “American Patrol”\, “A String Of Pearls”\, “Little Brown Jug”\, “Pennsylvania 6-5000”\, Tuxedo Junction”\, and of course their theme song “Moonlight Serenade” as they continue their national tour. The 15 member orchestra\, their lead singers\, and vocal group will perform their catalog of big band classics just the way they would have over 80 years ago when Glenn Miller stood in front of his band. It is a show that continues to transport audiences back in time and is as nostalgic as it is exciting. Touring continuously since 1956\, The Glenn Miller Orchestra is featured in over 200 concerts and dances per year. Each performance includes the timeless classics that made them famous the world over in a show that has moved audiences forgenerations. Additional space has been reserved in the rear of the theater for dancing so bring a partner and don’t forget your dancing shoes! \n\nAbout Glenn Miller \nAfter years as a writer and sideman Glenn Miller decided to form his own band in in March of 1938 and the rest is history! The legendary Glenn Miller was one of the most successful of all dance bandleaders back in the Swing Era of the 1930’s and 40’s. A matchless string of hit records\, the constant impact of radio broadcasts\, and the drawing power at theaters and ballrooms built and sustained the momentum of popularity. Glenn disbanded his orchestra in 1942 at the height of its popularity to volunteer for the Army. There he organized and led the famous Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band\nand toured Europe to entertain servicemen performing numerous live and radio shows. On December 15\, 1944\, Major Miller left on a flight that disappeared over the English Channel and was never seen again. With the release of the major motion movie The Glenn Miller Story in 1954\, interest and popular demand led the Miller Estate to authorize the formation of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. On June 6\, 1956\, under the direction of drummer Ray McKinley who had become the unofficial leader of the Army Air Force Band after Glenn’s disappearance\, the reformed Glenn Miller Orchestra performed its first concert and has been touring ever since. Today\, the ensemble continues to play the original Miller arrangements both from the civilian band and the AAFB libraries. Just as it was in the 1930’s and 40’s\, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is still the most sought after big band in the world today. \n\nBEWARE OF FRAUDULENT TICKET SELLERS\nIt has come to our attention that fraudulent “sellers” are advertising and selling tickets to this event at higher than face-value prices.  \nMechanics Hall ONLY sells tickets through our ticketing platform Purple Pass\, through the www.mechanicshall.org website.
