DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the next generation of organ talent at this special Organ Youth Showcase\, part of the Worcester Organ Performance Series. Featuring rising young organists exploring both theater and concert traditions\, this inspiring concert highlights the creativity\, skill\, and passion of tomorrow’s performers on the magnificent E. & G.G. Hook Organ (Opus 334\, 1864) at Mechanics Hall. This showcase reflects Mechanics Hall’s commitment to supporting emerging artists and cultivating the next generation of organists.\n \nWorcester Organ Performance Series: Youth Showcase featuring Dylan Shaw & Luke Staisiunas \nWednesday\, April 8\, 2026\nDoors Open: 11:30 AM | Performance: 12:00 PM \nMechanics Hall\, Worcester\, MA  \nFree Admission  \nLunch is welcome—bring your own or pick something up at concessions! \n\n \nDylan David Shaw is Parish Organist and Director of Music at Zion Lutheran Church in Bristol\, PA. A native of Philadelphia\, he was enraptured with the pipe organ from a very young age. He began lessons on the piano at age five and then on the organ at age eleven. Dylan frequented the Grand Court at Macy’s to hear the evening concerts. Through these regular visits\, he became well acquainted with Wanamaker Grand Court Organist Peter Richard Conte and the late Michael Stairs\, former organist for The Philadelphia Orchestra. \nDylan continued organ studies with and served as a console assistant for Michael Stairs. For nearly 11 years\, Dylan served as an Assistant Grand Court Organist for Peter Richard Conte at the Wanamaker Organ\, where he performed several concerts each week\, with programs ranging from Bach’s works to the occasional Disney tune. \n \nLuke Staisiunas is a versatile musician and technician based in Philadelphia. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma\, his studies under Dr. Adam Pajan\, Dr. Damin Spritzer\, and Dr. John Schwandt included a diverse array of musical endeavors\, alongside his training in pipe organ technology. \nAt the Wanamaker Organ\, he has served as one of Peter Richard Conte’s assistants\, filling in for recitals as required on the world-famous instrument. During the summer season\, he is a frequent performer on the world’s largest musical instrument\, the Midmer-Losh organ in Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. \nHe is regularly engaged as a freelance technician in and around Philadelphia. Additionally\, he serves as a board member and Secretary of the American Theatre Organ Society; the board of the Dickinson Theatre Organ Society; and as a consultant\, technician\, and performer for the Garden State Theatre Organ Society. \nOutside of work\, he enjoys hosting cocktail parties for his friends\, working on restoring a vintage reproducing (player) piano\, and pursuing amateur efforts at gardening. \n\nFor more information about The Worcester Organ\, visit us at www.MechanicsHall.org/the-worcester-organ   \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Frederick: Cantata on the Life of Frederick Douglass
DESCRIPTION:Join The Worcester Chorus plus instrumentalists and soloists from Greater Worcester for this world premiere of the late Brian Story’s work. Inspired by Nkeiru Okoye’s song cycle “Songs of Harriet Tubman”\, Story’s work uses speeches\, newspaper articles\, and sections from Douglass’ autobiography to portray Douglass’ life story. \n“In his journey from enslaved young man to internationally renowned activist\, Frederick Douglass (1818-1895) has been a source of inspiration and hope for millions. His brilliant words and brave actions continue to shape the ways that we think about race\, democracy\, and the meaning of freedom. \nHe became the most important leader of the movement for African American civil rights in the 19th century. After escaping from slavery in Maryland\, Douglass became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York\, during which he gained fame for his oratory and incisive antislavery writings. He wrote three autobiographies\, describing his experiences as an enslaved person in his first\, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass\, an American Slave (1845)\, which became a bestseller and was influential in promoting the cause of abolition. \nHe also actively supported women’s suffrage\, and he held several public offices. Without his knowledge or consent\, he became the first African American nominated for vice president of the United States\, as the running mate of Victoria Woodhull on the Equal Rights Party ticket. He believed in dialogue and in making alliances across racial and ideological divides. Frederick Douglass is the Father of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States.” (From the National Parks Service) \nBuy Tickets

SUMMARY:2026 Isaiah Thomas Award for Distinguished Community Service
DESCRIPTION:The Isaiah Thomas Award is given in recognition of Distinguished Community Service in Worcester\, Massachusetts.\nHISTORY\nIn every community there are loyal men and women who unselfishly devote their time and energies to the benefit of others. SUMMARY:Club 321: Featuring House of Hamill
DESCRIPTION:Artist: House of Hamill \nPennsylvania-based trio House of Hamill brings high-octane energy and genre-bending celtic folk to every stage they grace. With soaring harmonies\, fiery fiddle tunes\, and award-winning original songwriting\, they create exhilarating performances. From reimagined rock classics to original reels and ballads\, their intricate arrangements and tight harmonies reflect a fresh take on Celtic folk. Come on out for a night of toe-tapping\, spirited fun! \n\nHouse of Hamill owes its existence – almost entirely – to a series of cancelled flights. Rose Baldino and Brian Buchanan first found themselves onstage together at the 2014 Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City. Rose’s band Burning Bridget Cleary was scheduled to perform\, but inclement weather prevented two of her bandmates from flying. Desperate to salvage the showcase\, Rose approached Brian\, who she knew fronted Canadian celtic rock band Enter the Haggis. She thrust a guitar into Brian’s hands\, pulled him onstage\, and the two just clicked. Four years and hundreds of shows later\, the duo was booked to play a closing slot at a Colorado festival\, so they hired a bass player and drummer to fill out their sound. By the oddest of coincidences\, their hired bandmates’ flights were canceled the day of the show. A frantic Facebook post introduced Brian and Rose to local musician Caroline Browning\, who joined them on bass for the weekend. Once again\, the chemistry was undeniable\, and House of Hamill became a trio. \nShow MoreToday\, Pennsylvania-based House of Hamill is a fixture on festival stages across the US\, and have shared their music and stories on the country’s premier folk stages. Their version of “Pound a Week Rise” rose to #1 on the US Folk DJ charts\, and the video for their all-violin cover of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” amassed over 16 million views on Facebook\, where it was shared over 400\,000 times. Their latest release\, “Folk Hero\,” captures perfectly the frenetic energy and eclecticism of their always engaging live show. A lively collection of original instrumentals\, reimagined folk ballads\, and new songs that showcase the trio’s versatility\, “Folk Hero” is the third House of Hamill album to be funded entirely by their fans. Whether they’re ripping through a set of original jigs and reels\, adding lush three-part harmonies into traditional folk ballads\, or cracking up an audience with stories from the road\, House of Hamill puts on a show that captivates audiences from the very first note.
