The rich traditions of British brass band music will be on display at Mechanics Hall on Saturday, June 13, when two of North America’s leading ensembles – the Chesapeake Silver Cornet Brass Band and the New England Brass Band – perform a special combined program presented by Tour Resource Consultants.
Part of Chesapeake’s 30th Anniversary Tour, the program will include marches, big band standards, popular selections, and contemporary works for brass band. Each ensemble will perform separately, followed by a combined performance.
The Chesapeake Silver Cornet Brass Band, founded in 1996, is based in the Mid-Atlantic region and draws musicians from Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland. The 35-piece ensemble performs frequently within the eastern United States and has appeared four times at the national convention of the Association of Concert Bands. The June 13 concert marks the band’s first New England appearance and is part of a regional anniversary tour with additional performances in Bridgewater, Quincy, and Falmouth.
The New England Brass Band has been a leading force in brass band performance since 1988, appearing in concert spaces throughout the region. The NEBB is a frequent participant in regional and national brass band festivals and competitions.
Both ensembles follow the instrumentation and traditions of the British brass band format, featuring brass and percussion musicians in a concert setting.
