Beyond the Frames: Stories of Hope

CELEBRATING STORIES OF HOPE 

Mechanics Hall invites your 7th and 8th grade students to join us for a performance celebrating stories of Hope, Resilience and Courage through the historic figures depicted in our new portraits commission of Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth and William and Martha Brown. Award-winning storyteller and vocalist, April Armstrong, in collaboration with the electrifying Ammaya Dance and Drum, will present stories and performance celebrating the significant contributions of these figures through art, word, song, and even dance.

Award winning storyteller and vocalist, April Armstrong weaves melodies and words for a refreshing and compelling style of storytelling. Her story programs are fun and interactive. April’s stories delight, inform and inspire audiences of all ages. April is the recipient of the National Storytellers Networks 2020 J.J. Reneaux Emerging Artist Award for Storytelling as well as the 2015 Bronx BRIO Award for Storytelling. Her cd has won a Parents Choice Award – Silver. 

Ammaya Dance and Drum 
Ammaya Dance & Drum is an ensemble of dancers and drummers who practice traditional West African and Afro-Caribbean dance and drumming in the New England area. Ammaya presents the rich traditions of African rooted music and dance. Their performances are full of spirit and fun for all ages and abilities. The ensemble performs to uplift the hearts of their audiences, playing for the joy and healing inherent in African traditions.
